On Sanctity of Life Sunday in 2012, I preached a message on the wonder of the image of God in human life. I had spent the week in preparation, studying human development in the beginning stages of life. Providentially, the same week, I had the privilege of leading an elderly man named Mike, to faith in Christ on his death bed (Watch Mike tell his story here). That week, God seared into my heart a passion for the value of every life, from conception to death. I knew that God had given me a very specific burden for the issue.
Proverbs 24:11 states, "Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter." We serve a just God who, throughout Scripture, calls the people of God to advocate for the least of these, the weakest among us. Those with power are called to stand up for the powerless. This is the essence of justice, and it is the calling on the life of every follower of Jesus. Nowhere in our culture today is there a greater injustice happening than in the taking of the lives of the unborn. My heart is to see the local church rise up and embrace this call to justice and rescue those who are being taken away to death.
